General Machinist I Summary

Set-up and operates various types of machines by applying knowledge of machine processes and methods for the production of various types of material.

Training and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years work experience, trade school, vocational education, or apprenticeship required.

Specific Job Functions

  • Complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision in a timely manner.

  • Good comprehension of blueprints, sketches, drawing specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece.

  • Attaches basic fixture to machine table or workstation and secures work piece in fixture according to set-up instructions with little or no assistance; using clamps, hardware and measuring instruments.

  • Able to adjust machine settings. Sets tool length offsets and work offsets, uses other offsets as required according to information on set up sheets (all with minimal supervision).

  • Able to maintain machinery through required maintenance schedules.
